ICI Bucharest attended the meeting of the “Romania in the EU” Strategic Reflection Group

Dr. Eng. Adrian-Victor Vevera, General Director of ICI Bucharest, attended the meeting of the “Romania in the EU” Strategic Reflection Group (RUE), on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, at Cotroceni Palace. The meeting focused on the theme “Romania in the era of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies. A national, European and global perspective”, and the first part of the discussions was also attended by the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan. The discussions focused on Romania’s priorities in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, with particular attention to computing infrastructure, data centres, innovation capacity, and access to technological resources.

Topics included investment in data centres and computing infrastructure, better use of opportunities offered by the European framework, developing the national AI ecosystem, and how Romania can generate and retain economic value in this field. The risks associated with new technologies and the main directions for action in the period ahead were also discussed.

For ICI Bucharest, these topics are directly connected to the Institute’s work in areas such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, digital infrastructures and cybersecurity. RO AI Factory is one such project, with ICI Bucharest serving as the hosting entity. The project aims to develop infrastructure and services dedicated to artificial intelligence, with access for the research community, public administration, SMEs and startups.

Representatives of the business community, the IT and energy sectors, universities and research organisations, and experts from fields relevant to Romania’s technological and economic development attended the meeting. The Presidential Administration is expected to publish the meeting's synthesis report.
