Evaluation and experimentation for "Internet of Things" platforms

Project Coordinator: Eng. Ec. Ștefan PREDA – Scientific Researcher

Overall objectives of the project

  • research on dedicated „Internet of Things” platforms;
  • development and experimentation „Internet of Things” reference platform;
  • development and testing of statistical calculation applications for the IoT reference platform.

Results

  • study of the existing offer of the IoT platforms and identification of 11 criteria for comparative evaluation of the platforms included in this offer
  • selecting and investigating in detail five IoT platforms (AWS IoT, Carriots, ThingWorx, ThingSpeak, thinger.io);
  • setting up test configurations for evaluating and experimenting the investigated platforms (ThingWorx, Thingspeak and thinger.io)
  • analysis of the short- and medium-term evolution perspectives of the IoT platforms offer;
  • research report on the installation, configuration and experimentation of an open-source IoT platform application in the cloud and the design, development, implementation and experimentation of the own IoT platform functionalities;
  • ThingsBoard open-source IoT platform functional experimental configuration installed in the cloud on Docker container-based OpenShift platform and Kubernetes container manager;
  • own functional components IoT experimental platform;
  • research report on notions and methods of statistical analysis and data exploration - data mining - for IoT data, their development and experimentation, case study, instructions for use;
  • experimental statistical application with multiple linear regression IoT data, to verify the existence of correlations / dependencies between data and development of a predictive model, using the R environment;
  • experimental interactive web applications for visual analysis and exploration of data, with the calculation of descriptive statistical measures, using the Shiny system on the OpenShift platform.
