Integration of multiple heterogeneous data sources in translational medicine using semantic techniques

Project Coordinator: Prof. Dr. Eng. Math. Adriana ALEXANDRU – Scientific Researcher I

Overall objectives of the project

  • use of ontologies in the semantic integration of information sources in the field of fundamental biomedical sciences, clinical practice and public health;
  • architectural model of an integration environment of information sources used in translational medicine at the semantic level and of distributed interrogation of biomedical data sources.

Results

  • study on the current state of the art and trends of research, development, and innovation in the field of data integration solutions in translational medicine: data sources, available standards, data integration solutions;
  • study of the use of ontologies associated with knowledge bases in translational medicine in which data sources and data source structures are presented; standards available for the Health sector; solutions for integrating information sources; definitions, notions about ontologies; computer languages for representing ontologies; use of specific semantic web techniques for the integration of heterogeneous data sources;
  • basic concepts and systems for translational medicine;
  • architectural models for the integration of data sources used in translational medicine;
  • distributed query systems for biomedical data sources;
  • OpenEHR architectural reference model for integrating data sources used in translational medicine.
