Enigma - the device for transmitting coded messages during the Second World War, a rare museum piece presented at ICI Bucharest

ICI Bucharest organized the event "Communications in time", during which it presented an Enigma machine famous for its role in the Second World War and its cryptographic complexity.

Enigma was a portable cypher used to encrypt and decrypt secret messages during World War II. The device sent coded messages to the Army, Air Force, and Navy, being invented with the hope that these messages would never be deciphered.

The event organized by ICI Bucharest in partnership with OTOTO represented an exceptional occasion, considering the institute's interests and activities in the field of technology and cryptography.

The demo "Enigma encrypts for you!" was an opportunity to come into contact with an artefact that played a significant role in the development of cryptography, providing a chance to learn from the past and appreciate the progress and technological evolution in this field.

"At ICI Bucharest, we are dedicated to promoting innovation and knowledge. We continue to offer unique opportunities to learn and explore the world of technology. The ENIGMA machine is a symbol of human ingenuity, demonstrating the importance of learning from the past and the significant contribution that innovation and perseverance can bring to our path." said Adrian-Victor Vevera, general director of ICI Bucharest.

The device had a significant impact on the outcome of the war, and the decryption of its messages was instrumental in the victory of the Allies, who were able to decode the messages. The Enigma is today a rare museum piece, still studied worldwide.
