ICI Bucharest and Agerpres, in partnership with the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization (MCID), announced the launch of the second phase of the “AI Application – Agerpres News” project, an initiative that marks the expansion of the use of artificial intelligence in regional news feeds. With the support of the Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, Bogdan Gruia Ivan, the project, which in the first phase laid the foundations for a national news feed validated with the help of AI, is now expanding through regional partnerships for pilot projects in the counties of Bistrița-Năsăud, Dâmbovița and Prahova. The aim is to support local journalism through advanced solutions that provide relevant information adapted to the needs of local communities.
The launch event, organized today, December 10, 2024, highlighted the importance of emerging technologies in supporting regional press. The application uses artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze and distribute verified information, playing an essential role in combating disinformation and strengthening public trust in quality journalism.
Adrian-Victor Vevera, General Director of ICI Bucharest, highlighted the significance of this step: “Today, through the second stage of the project developed with Agerpres, we successfully continue our mission to support local and regional press. We want to offer all journalists this tool based on artificial intelligence, which will support their efforts to validate information and disseminate it, including to digital natives, who get their information with the help of new technologies.”
In turn, Claudia-Victoria Nicolae, General Director of Agerpres, stated: “As we have been able to observe, especially in recent weeks, informational hazard somehow exceeds the objectivity of a news item. It is not enough to address a media audience that consumes agency news, but you must expand to the ordinary public, who are looking for a channel to inform them today. We have reached a point where citizens do not trust information and try to filter it themselves, and the search range is quite large. The expansion at the regional level, indeed, came as a necessity for the customization of information. ”
ICI Bucharest and Agerpres invite media institutions and local authorities nationwide to join this project. Through active involvement, organizations can benefit from real-time validation of news, access to a secure information flow and the use of advanced technologies to combat disinformation.
