ICI Bucharest, in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Romania, organized on Thursday, November 14, 2024, the "Society 5.0" seminar, an event dedicated to the debate on how technology can contribute to a more equitable, sustainable and people-centred society.
At the event's opening, the ambassador of Japan in Romania, His Excellency Takashi Katae, emphasized the importance of the Romanian-Japanese partnership in promoting innovation and international collaboration in cutting-edge technology. Adrian-Victor Vevera, the general director of ICI Bucharest, also highlighted the essential role of research and development in informatics regarding digital transformation and building a "Society 5.0" in Romania.
The event continued with a presentation by Dr. Eng. Atsushi Deguchi, Executive Director and Vice President of the University of Tokyo (UTokyo). In his presentation, Dr. Deguchi addressed the concept of "Society 5.0," an innovative vision developed by Japan that proposes a symbiosis between cutting-edge technologies and the real needs of people, transforming society's challenges into a source of opportunities. The concept emphasizes artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data and other advanced technologies to create a balance between technological progress and societal well-being.
During the seminar, interactive discussions took place on topics of interest such as developing digital infrastructure, cyber security, innovations in health and education and urban sustainability. The participants shared opinions and perspectives regarding implementing and adapting the "Society 5.0" concept in Romania, exploring the opportunities and challenges it brings.
The "Society 5.0" seminar once again highlighted the commitment of ICI Bucharest and the Embassy of Japan to support research and development and international collaboration to promote a society based on innovation and technology for a fairer and more sustainable future.
