ICI Bucharest coordinated the section "Cyber Diplomacy. Critical Infrastructure Protection" within the CyberCon Romania 2023 conference

The National Institute for Research & Development in Informatics - ICI Bucharest coordinated the section "Cyber Diplomacy. Critical Infrastructure Protection" during the CyberCon Romania 2023 conference, organized by the Romanian Association for Information Security Assurance (RAISA) in partnership with the US Embassy in Romania.

The event represented a forum for debates and exchange of experience between professionals in the field of cyber security, addressing current topics such as cyber diplomacy and the protection of critical infrastructures. The participants discussed issues related to cyber threats, defense strategies, and international cooperation in this field.

The conference was opened by Adrian-Victor Vevera, general director of ICI Bucharest, stating:" Critical infrastructures, telecommunications, transport, financial and health systems, are at the heart of the functioning of modern society. Cyber attacks on these infrastructures can have devastating consequences, affecting the economy and everyday life. In this context, cyber diplomacy has a crucial role in protecting these infrastructures through international cooperation to develop norms and rules in the digital environment, strengthen strategic partnerships, and share information to prevent and respond to cyber threats."

The first panel included discussions on cyber diplomacy moderated by Carmen-Elena Cîrnu, scientific director of ICI Bucharest, the participants in the debates being John Donlon QPM, president of the International Association Critical Infrastructure Protection Professionals, Iulian Cojocaru, Expert Euro-Atlantic Resilience Center, Claudiu Codreanu, Expert Romanian Diplomatic Institute and Mihai Sebe, Head of Service European Institute in Romania.

The second panel, moderated by Alexandru Georgescu, scientific researcher ICI Bucharest, focused on discussions about the protection of critical infrastructures and involved Cosmin Anghel, Chief Information Officer Nuclearelectrica, Alexandra Cristina Dinu, associate professor at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, George Cherecheș, Sales Engineer Team Lead OPSWAT and Olga Bucovețchi, associate professor University Politehnica of Bucharest.

The conference had the support of prestigious institutional partners, who helped ensure a conducive framework for discussion and knowledge exchange. Among them are the National Directorate of Cyber Security, the National Cyberint Center, the Romanian Police, the Euro-Atlantic Resilience Center, the National Institute of Magistracy, the European Institute of Romania, and the Institute of Financial Studies.
