ICI Bucharest, involved in the debates at Digital Europe 2024+: Digitization and its impact on democracy

ICI Bucharest participated on Thursday, October 31, 2024, in the DIGITAL EUROPE 2024+ event, with the theme "Information Society - A New Era of Democracy". In the round table entitled "The Impact of Digitization on Democratic Processes", specialists, decision-makers, and technology leaders discussed how digital transformation shapes and influences modern democratic societies.

Adrian-Victor Vevera, general director of ICI Bucharest, took part in the panel "Combating manipulation and disinformation. Use of social media, big data, and AI tools", emphasizing the importance of integrating advanced data analysis tools, social media and artificial intelligence (AI) to counter disinformation and information manipulation. The focus was on innovative measures supporting the transparency and authenticity of information, including using blockchain to guarantee the traceability of sources and information.

"Today's information society brings exceptional opportunities for democracy and unprecedented challenges. We must invest in solutions that support access to truthful information and protect the public from misinformation. By integrating transparent and secure mechanisms, such as the blockchain, we want to ensure citizens' access to quality information, thus protecting democracy in an era of digitization", said Adrian-Victor Vevera, the general director of the institute, offering the project as an example Agerpres Daily News | Hold History", initiated by ICI Bucharest and the National Press Agency AGERPRES, which aims to transform authentic and verified news into unique NFTs, giving consumers the opportunity to own part of the most relevant moments in daily news.

The DIGITAL EUROPE 2024+ event involved debates on key aspects of digital transformation, from the implications for democratic processes to the role of technology in promoting responsible and authentic journalism. Topics such as combating fake news, transparency of information processes and responsible use of data were analyzed in the context of an increasingly digitized society.
