The National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics – ICI Bucharest, in partnership with the U.S. Commercial Service, organized today, July 29, 2025, the workshop on the theme "The Defense Industry Facing Dual-Use Technologies and NATO Requirements", an event dedicated to security, research and innovation in dual-use technologies.
The event brought together representatives of government institutions, the defense industry, academia, as well as experts in technology, cybersecurity and compliance with NATO standards.
At the opening of the workshop, the Vice President of the Committee for Defense, Public Order and National Security of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania, Andrei Baciu, spoke. At the same time, Adrian-Victor Vevera, General Director of ICI Bucharest, stated: "It is essential for Romania to strengthen its innovation capacity in the area of dual-use technologies and to align its resources with the requirements of NATO and strategic partners. The partnership with the U.S. Commercial Service underlines the importance of transatlantic collaboration and know-how transfer in critical areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity or communications."
The discussions included case studies, international best practices and challenges related to the export and control of dual-use technologies, as well as support mechanisms for entities operating in the field of defense and technological innovation. The event was intended to stimulate collaboration between the public and private sectors in order to develop technological capabilities compatible with NATO standards and requirements.
