Launching conference of the project "Cloud type infrastructure for public institutions in Romania" – ICIPRO

The conference on the implementation of the first Cloud Computing platform dedicated to Romanian public institutions - ICIPRO - was held on April 2, 2014, at the headquarters of the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics - ICI Bucharest.

Prof. Dr. Eng. Doina Banciu, Dna. General Director, opened the conference by presenting the specific objectives of the ICIPRO project: modernization, development, and efficiency of public services provided to Romanian citizens via a Cloud infrastructure.

The National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics will provide IT resources for processing, storage, and performance, allowing public institutions to migrate their computing technology onto a single computing platform, lowering individual institution costs and improving data transparency at the national level.

According to data from the Electronic Public Procurement System, the project "Cloud infrastructure for public institutions in Romania" began with the announcement of an open tender, a contract supported with EU funds worth roughly 17 million Euro (SEAP).

The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of the Information Society, the IT industry, and the press. The two parties must come up with a list of initiatives of mutual interest in which experts from both institutions could participate. The modalities of participation will be established as the projects of interest are recognized, both in terms of resources and the involvement of the two parties.
