Short history

Founded in 1970, the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics - ICI Bucharest is a center of excellence for research, development, and innovation in information and communication technology (ICT) in Romania.

For more than 50 years, the institute has continued to be a true source of experts, contributing to the advancement of computer science through cutting-edge research and impactful projects. Under the coordination of the Government of Romania through the General Secretariat of the Government and as a legal entity with economic management and financial autonomy, according to GD no. 1621/2003 with the subsequent amendments and additions, ICI Bucharest offers top expertise and continuous innovation, being a pillar for digital transformation in Romania.

ICI Bucharest's mission is to promote excellence in research and innovation to develop the knowledge-based economy and integrate Romania into the global research community. Through research and development projects in ICT, the institute supports the construction of a modern, competitive, and connected information society.
